Honda Spares - where to buy?
by Hedonist666 on May.26, 2009, under Repair & Restauration
As I’ve got an old bike, and things tend to need replacing on it, it’s important that I know where to purchase spares. From spare footpeg rubbers to the thermostat switch I needed last week… I’m too lazy to drive over to the nearest Honda dealership (Chiswick Honda), although I give it to them that they have very helpful staff when you do call them up for help. But as a child of the internet age, I prefer to buy my spares online, knowing they’ll be delivered to me within a few days. There are two places I regularly visit for spares:
www.davidsilverspares.co.uk - A famous name in motorcycle spares, and quite rightly so. They have an easy to use website, good range of spares, and offer quick delivery if the item you need is in stock.
www.wemoto.com - Full name: World’s End Motorcycles; great selection of spares, not so easy to use this site though, it’s a bit confusing getting through the first page of the site, to finally see the list of spares for your bike model. But once you do reach, just bookmark that page to save the hassle for the next visit. Whenever I’ve ordered anything, it turned out a little cheaper than David Silver Spares, and my order reached me the next morning! Now that’s a service worth coming back for.
I only wish that buying spares for our other bike was this easy… But that’s the price you pay for owning a Moto Guzzi! Everything goes through the dealer network.

Recommended sources for other spares / parts:
http://www.motorrad-burchard.de - Great for custom parts to suit various cruisers.
http://www.startright.co.uk - Spares for more bikes than I have space to list here right now - including Japanese, Chinese, Italian, American, etc. ; if you want the full overview, why not have a look here!

Love your site and look forward to the RSS feeds.
I’m a newbie definitive middle-aged biker trying to get back in the saddle after many years and looking for exactly the kind of hints and tips you offer here. I’m currently stuck on a 125 having found the test I took on my Yammy FS1E back in the day no longer counts.
Still, I was after a “big bike” 125 and spent the last year restoring a very neglected 2005 125 Suzuki Intruder to showroom condition and adding a few proper cruiser bits and pieces - if I’m forced to ride a 125 its at least going to be the best looking 125.
Your piece on helpful dealers prompts me to ask you to give a mention to Giseher Burchard - owner of Motorrad Burchard in Germany and the only supplier of forward controls for my VL125 I could find in Europe.
I’m still a little wary of ordering via the web - especially from a foreign supplier- but Giselher was incredibly helpful. Not least when having supplied the fowards, I tried fitting only to discover Suzuki had changed the VL125 frame over the production period and the spindle from the brake through the frame was too short to reach the connection rod to the rear brake.
Giselher immediately offered to remake the spindle to the right dimensions and after some email pictures between the Uk and Germany, sent a new one of exactly the right size across at no cost.
Also well worth a mention is the amazing Gavin Sowter of GS Polishing down in Kent.
Gavin helped me clean up all the engine covers, the top and bottom yokes and the forks so they sparkled better then new - a really superb find and a true expert in polishing and chroming.
With the help of these guys, ebay and used parts from Startright motors in Leeds I can honestly say my ride is now BETTER than showroom condition.
Be good to hear more from you, and other Ride Hard visitors, about good people to go to for spares, repairs and knowledge - especially people like Gavin who take a pride in their job and don’t charge a fortune.
Ride on…

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the kind words about this blog!
And your tributes to helpful businesses are appreciated - so in order to help people out I am including them on the page with website links for whoever’s interested.
Considering you’ve just done a lot of work to your Intruder, would you mind sharing a picture or some more information about what you’ve accomplished? I’d sure be interested to know more!
Cheers!
